This west coast port is persuading customers that there is an
alternative to the congestion at Dublin and Cork.

It is not only a port capacity issue. If customers in Western
Ireland can eliminate trucking costs from Dublin, they can save
a considerable amount of money on the total transport costs.
Paul Duncan Managing Director of Phili Orient lines said “It was
our first opportunity to avail of the service and reduce costs.
Limerick is less than 40 km away compared with 150 km from
Cork and 230 km from Dublin. We are doing all we can to assist
in promoting this service”.
India, a growing supplier base, a cost effective way to
ship products to Ireland.
Phili Orient has announced a direct, weekly closed container
service from India rather than the prevalent transhipment services
via the UK and Rotterdam, starting in January 2006. The new
service is from the West Coast port of Mumbai , Delhi and
inland ICD’s such as Ludhiana and is a response to the
increasing capacity demand on these routes.
